Psychosocial Risk Factors in the Indian Retail Textile Sector

Rakhy K.S., A.S. Ambily

Abstract

The study examines the prevalence of psychosocial risk factors among retail textile shop salespersons. More specifically, this study analyses the impact of psychosocial risk factors on emotional exhaustion and the desire to quit. Primary data were collected from 400 retail textile salespersons using interview schedules. Findings from this cross- sectional study indicate that high levels of psychosocial risk factors lead to emotional exhaustion and the intention to quit. A substantial proportion of “soft” policy initiatives are necessary to protect emotional and mental health of employees in the workplace.
