Koshish: The Homeless and the Destitute Matter
Abstract
Koshish, a field action project of the School of Social Work, was started as a field
work placement with social work students in 2005, and formally initiated in August 2006
with an aim to address the issues of homelessness, destitution and beggary. Kosh-
ish works with persons in remand/detention homes, and also open communities. The
article outlines the objectives for working with these marginalised populations which
include reducing the vulnerabilities of the targeted population, enhance social inclusion
and prevent their criminalisation. The strategies used at various phases of the project
are discussed.
