Lessons to Learn in Sanitation from China

Access to sanitation facilities is a major concern for India. Although several sanitation
programmes have been launched in India, other countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal
and Pakistan have overtaken India in providing sanitation facilities to their citizens. One
can argue that these countries are much smaller, but how has China produced better
results with a larger population. Interestingly, large scale sanitation work was initiated in
the some decade in China and India, but China produced better results and maintained
consistency. The article looks into the basic components of the sanitation programmes
of both the countries and identifies how China structured them differently.
