Theory Building in Organisational Studies: A Grounded Theory Approach
Abstract
The paper explains the process to develop theories in Organisational Studies using
Grounded Theory Approach. Revisiting the extant theories or developing new theories
is important in the field of management as organisations witness constant changes in
their business environment and human capital. Thus, this paper presents a roadmap
for developing new theories through a qualitative inquiry. The paper explains the tenets
of grounded theory approach through five stages: entry to the approach, data selection,
data collection, analytic process and theory building. The theory which is developed
through this approach is novel, empirically evident, close to the practice domain and
represents the current reality. The paper concludes with implications for practitioners
and academicians.
