Attachment and Disempowering Family Contexts: Reflections from Practice
Abstract
This article attempts to explain how attachmen tevolves during troubled family transitions. In difficult family contexts, attachment is influenced and co-constructed by underlying disempowering socio-cultural norms and processes. While working with children, therapeutic processes are often restricted to the caregiver-child attachment system. Reflections from the field suggest that the integration of attachment to a Whole System’s Framework can bring resilience and enduring changes in the lives of children.
